The Oakland-Alameda County Alliance for Boys and Men of Color, supported by Urban Strategies Council, has been honored today as the 2016 recipient of LeaderSpring’s Leadership Legacy Award.
Since 2011, the Oakland-Alameda County Alliance for Boys and Men of Color has been at the forefront of shaping many national, state, and local conversations around issues affecting boys and men of color. The Alliance has demonstrated the importance of working across sectors and leveraging systems to improve outcomes for boys and men of color. From this common purpose, a structure evolved with separate but coordinated working tables for community-based organizations and public system partners to focus on identifying and implementing policies, practices and programs for improving outcomes for boys and men of color in education, health, employment and criminal justice.
Each year, LeaderSpring celebrates a group of individuals or a coalition of organizations that demonstrate high-impact collaborative leadership to be honored at their annual luncheon. LeaderSpring highlights exemplary leaders who have brought groups of people together or worked across multiple organizations to address social inequality that has resulted in significant and sustainable change in the community.
Thank you to the partners for all your hard work, your continued support and contributions to the Alliance but most importantly your commitment to improving the life outcomes of our boys and men of color in Oakland and Alameda County. Often times, we focus a lot on what we have yet to do and don’t take the time to reflect on how we’ve impacted lives and challenged policies and practices. Urban Strategies Council shares this award with all of you and we thank LeaderSpring for recognizing the power of a collaborative and our efforts over these last five years.
Here’s to continued years of collaboration, partnership and changing the lives of boys and men of color!
