Spinoffs & Incubations
The Council is nimble in responding to new issues and challenges in our community. Our innovative practices have fostered the implementation of many new ideas; several of these have taken shape so successfully that they have been spun off as new non-profit organizations and collaboratives. Over our history we have sparked, built up and incubated the following collaborations and organizations:
New organizations:
Ongoing collaboratives:
- Office of African American Male Achievement (in Oakland Unified School District)
- Brooklyn Basin (Oak to 9th) Community Benefits Coalition
- Alameda County Community Asset Network (AC CAN)
- Alameda County Coalition for Criminal Justice Reform
(AC3JR) - California Alliance for Boys and Men of Color
- Freedom Schools (Black Community Crusade for Children)
- Leadership Technical Team (later called the Interagency Children’s Policy Council)
- National Neighborhood Indicators Partnership (NNIP)
- Oakland Achieves Coalition
- Oakland Community After-School Alliance (OCASA)
We were also responsible for creating the Center For Community Builders and the National Community Building Network, which no longer are operating.
