Spinoffs & Incubations

The Council is nimble in responding to new issues and challenges in our community.  Our innovative practices have fostered the implementation of many new ideas; several of these have taken shape so successfully that they have been spun off as new non-profit organizations and collaboratives. Over our history we have sparked, built up and incubated the following collaborations and organizations:

New organizations:

Ongoing collaboratives:

  • Office of African American Male Achievement (in Oakland Unified School District)
  • Oakland Achieves Coalition
  • Oak to 9th Community Benefits Coalition
  • Alameda County Community Asset Network (AC CAN)
  • Alameda County Coalition for Criminal Justice Reform
  • California Alliance for Boys and Men of Color
  • Freedom Schools (Black Community Crusade for Children)
  • Leadership Technical Team (later called the Interagency Children’s Policy Council)
  • National Neighborhood Indicators Partnership (NNIP)
  • Oakland Achieves Coalition
  • Oakland Community After-School Alliance  (OCASA)

We were also responsible for creating the Center For Community Builders and the National Community Building Network, which no longer are operating.
