Dear  Friends,

Thank you for supporting the Urban Strategies Council over the past 32 years as we work with our partners and residents to eliminate persistent poverty in the Bay Area by transforming low-income neighborhoods into vibrant, healthy communities.

A few of our 2019 highlights and achievements included:

  • Being selected by the Obama Foundation as an inaugural My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) Alliance Impact grantee to provide violence prevention and mentoring services to young men engaged in the juvenile-justice system (see the video below), and hosting the MBK Rising national summit in February
  • Organizing a citywide community engagement and research process to develop a startup plan for Oakland’s new Department of Violence Prevention
  • Organizing a three-county collaborative of community colleges, community organizations and criminal justice system leaders to increase funding and strengthen programs supporting formerly incarcerated college students
  • Completing research projects focused on domestic violence prevention, workforce and post-secondary access for out-of-school youth, early childhood health and education indicators for young boys (0-8 yrs. old) of color, and anti-displacement public policies for Oakland residents.

This year, we’re looking to build more railways to education and economic opportunity for our region’s most vulnerable residents. We will continue to do this working in partnership with organizational allies and community residents most impacted by inequality in the Bay area. You can help us achieve our goal by donating to Urban Strategies Council today on #GivingTuesday, and through the holiday season. Your support helps inspire personal philanthropy and encourage charitable giving during the holiday season. Share in our progress by following us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

Thank you for your support!
