What is the Shipyard Legacy Fund Project?
Planning for The Shipyard Legacy Fund is underway at the Hunter’s Point Shipyard. The Hunters Point Shipyard master developer has an agreement with the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency (SFRA) to share proceeds from the sales of lots on Parcel A and to offer six acres of Shipyard land for community-serving facilities. The Parcel A lots will probably be ready for sale in late 2006 or early 2007. While the exact amount of the proceeds depends on market conditions, approximately $30 million will be placed in the Shipyard Legacy Fund from the land sales.
While the Redevelopment Agency Commission has final authority over the use of these resources, the community will be charged with setting priorities and making recommendations to the Commission. In consultation with the Hunter’s Point Shipyard Citizen’s Advisory Committee (CAC), the Redevelopment Agency has hired Urban Strategies Council to develop an effective community process and structure by which recommendations will be made to the Commission. Over the next year Urban Strategies Council and its partner organization PolicyLink will work with residents, local businesses and Bayview Hunter’s Point organizations to decide how this Fund can best be used to benefit the community. In the end, Urban Strategies Council will produce:
- An inventory of needs and services in the District 10 communities
- A detailed “investment roadmap” of potential opportunities for initial investments and a concrete plan to get them started
- Recommendation on the type of organization (known as a Quasi-Public Entity or QPE) that should be created to govern and administer the investments, programs and services identified by the “roadmap”
Where Were the Recommendations on the Administration and Governance of the SLF be Discussed?
The recommendations on the type of organization (known as a Quasi-Public Entity or QPE) that should be created to govern and administer the Shipyard Legacy Fund were presented and discussed at the following meetings which were open to the public.
